How we restore your photo — honestly

You are trusting us with an irreplaceable photograph, so you deserve a plain answer to the fair question: what exactly do we do to it?

What we repair

Scratches, creases, tears, stains, silvering and fading. We correct the exposure and contrast the way a good modern camera would have rendered the same scene, and we remove the artefacts of the old paper — grain, spots, yellowing — so the image quality reads as modern while the moment stays exactly of its time.

What we interpret

Colour, mostly. A black-and-white photograph does not record what colour anything was, so our colours are a careful, historically plausible interpretation — not a record. A dress we colour blue may have been green. Fine detail that the original simply doesn't contain (a face smaller than a fingernail, a blur that was always a blur) may be reconstructed plausibly rather than recovered exactly.

What we never do

We never add, remove or move a person, an animal or an object. We never make anyone younger, slimmer or "prettier". We never modernise clothing or hairstyles, remove a cigarette from a hand, or change an expression. Every instruction we give the restoration model forbids these things explicitly — and then we check the result.

What "every face checked" means

Software compares every face in the restoration against the same face in your original and measures how alike they are. If any face falls short, or if the number of people doesn't match exactly, the photograph is not sent — a person looks at it first, side by side with the original, and either fixes it or refunds you. That is also our promise if we get it wrong anyway: redo or refund, no questions.

We use modern AI restoration models, directed by the rules above and checked as described. We're straightforward about that: the craft is in the instructions, the checking, and the care — and the redo-or-refund promise is ours, not a machine's.
